Created to Create

"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

— Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

Art, like the sunlight that brightens our world, or the food that nourishes our bodies, is a natural expression of life. God, the ultimate Creator, designed us with this same creative spirit, woven into the fabric of our being. Whether through painting, writing, or even simply the way we love and serve others, we reflect God’s creative nature.

In today’s world, creativity is often seen as an extracurricular activity, but from the moment God spoke the universe into existence, we’ve been invited to join in the work of creation. Our creativity is not just for beauty, but for building up, for healing, for pointing others to the beauty of God’s heart. As Maryann F. Kohl said, “Art is as natural as sunshine and as vital as nourishment.” This truth holds spiritual depth; we are nourished when we use the gifts God has placed within us.

The child in this image, lost in the act of painting, mirrors the way God calls us to express ourselves freely, without hesitation, and with joy. Each stroke of the brush can be a form of worship, an acknowledgment of the gifts He’s given us. When we create, we participate in the very essence of what it means to be made in His image.

Reflection:

What gifts of creativity has God placed in your hands? How can you use them today to reflect His glory? Whether it's through art, music, writing, or even the way you communicate and build relationships, know that each creative act is part of God’s greater purpose.

Supporting Scriptures:

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." — Genesis 1:1

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." — Colossians 3:23

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating us in Your image and gifting us with the ability to create. Help us to use our talents, no matter how big or small, to reflect Your love and beauty to the world. May everything we do be a reflection of Your greatness and a testimony to Your craftsmanship in us. Amen.
